ASX 200
The S&P/ASX 200 is widely regarded as the major index to monitor the state of the Australian stock market. Basically, it consists of 200 of the largest and most eligible stocks listed on the ASX as chosen by a committee to a set of specific guidelines.
The ASX 200 is a market-capitalisation weighted and float-adjusted index of stocks, which means the index is intended to reflect true changes in share price. This allows investors more accurate information, and fund managers, specialist advisors and other investment professionals rely on the ASX 200 for this reason also.
