The Frankfurt stock market is Germany's leading stock exchange, serving over 90% of the German market. Out of the 300 market participants in the Frankfurt stock market, nearly 50% of these are from foreign countries. The Frankfurt stock market is part of the Deutsche Borse and is one of the world's first stock exchanges. As a stocks trade-place, the Frankfurt stock market is the third largest exchange in the world. As of May 2008, the Frankfurt Stock Market recorded a total turnover of €5.2 trillion per year. The exchange is the sixth largest in the world in terms of market capitalisation.

Trading hours at the Frankfurt stock market differ depending on the type of trade and the system used for trading. The electronic trading system, Xetra, operates between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM. Xetra was created for the Frankfurt stock market and now operates in numerous exchanges around the world. The Xetra system allows 15 countries to trade over one consolidated platform. The Frankfurt stock market trading floor is open for trade from 5:45 PM to 8:00 PM. X-DAX trading hours run from 5:45 to 8:00 PM. Some of the indexes in the Frankfurt stock market include the DAX and the EuroStoxx 50.
