Milan Stock Market
The Milan stock market is better known as the Borsa Italiana. Located in Milan, Italy, the Milan stock market is the main stock exchange in the country. Originally founded in 1808, the Milan stock market was acquired by the London Stock Exchange in late 2007. More than 90% of Italy's trading volume is handled through the Milan stock market, making it the largest exchange in the country. An electronic trading system was adopted by the Milan stock market in 1991. It was not until 1994, however, that all of the transactions were handled electronically. Approximately, 130 international and domestic brokers are on the Milan stock market.
There are five divisions in the Milan stock market. The first two sections are the MTA and STAR. The MTA is an electronic market where Italian shares, warrants and convertible bonds are traded. The Milan stock market also features the STAR for medium-ranged companies. The Nuovo Mercato division is for companies that focus on innovation. The Milan stock market also features the Mercato Ristretto, which handles bonds, stocks, options and warrants that are not on the official exchange. The Premi Market is reserved for premium contracts for Milan stock market products. Indexes for the Milan Stock Exchange include the MIBTEL, S&P/MIB, ALL STAR and MIDEX.
