New York Stock Market

The New York stock market is based in New York City and is the largest stock exchange in the world in terms of dollar volume. With over 2,760 listings in June 2008, it is one of the largest stock exchanges in terms of securities listings. In 2006, the New York stock market recorded 25 trillion US dollars in combined capitalisation. The New York stock market is part of the NYSE Euronext, which is the largest stock exchange group in the world. The merger between Euronext and the New York stock market group in 2007 made NYSE Euronext the first transatlantic stock exchange.

Trading in the New York stock market is done through its electronic Hybrid Market. This is a combination of electronic trade and auction trade. Trading hours run from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Eastern Time in the New York stock market. These hours were applied on September 30, 1985 and have remained the same since. The New York stock market provides investors and companies with a large variety of services and tools to aid in transactions, market analysis and other aspects of the market. Two main indexes track the New York stock market: the NYSE Composite and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
