Shenzhen Stock Market

The Shenzhen stock market is one of the three stock exchanges in China. Located in Shenzhen, China, the Shenzhen stock market is regulated by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC). With 540 company listings at the end of 2007, the Shenzhen stock market had approximately 35 million registered investors. Founded in 1990, the Shenzhen stock market has grown and reached 122 billion US dollars in market capitalisation. The exchange reached an average of 600,000 deals per day, with a value of 807 million US dollars.

While the Hong Kong Stock Exchange handles bigger companies, the Shenzhen stock market is mostly composed of small companies. The Shenzhen stock market is made up of a majority of individual investors. State owned enterprises (SOEs) make up most of the company listings in the Shenzhen stock market. This means that the Chinese government has controlling interest over these SOEs. Trading hours at the Shenzhen stock market take place from 9:30 to 11:30 AM and from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. The Shenzhen stock market makes use of numerous indexes to track the market. The blue-chip composite index was launched in 1995. Another popular index on the market is the Shenzhen Stock Exchange 100 Index.
